(NTL/Virgin Broadband)Im trying to set up a wireless router! What does PPPoE, PPTP Or Telstra mean?
I dont believe i should choose the consequence of the eager search that the placing cd as found. It has establish a built in etheret(DHCP)
I own had line ever since it was ntl and it isnt a new line box ever since it changed to virgin, its still all the old info etc
it gives me the choice to stain a box with pppoe etc at the base so what one should i choose?
Just in circumstances it helps, the line box make is a terayon! Answer:
DHCP is the one you need. Ignore the others.
PPPoE = Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. That would need a username and password only to connect which NTL don't need.
PPTP = Point to Point Tunneling Protocol. That would be for connecting to a VPN (usually for a bsuiness).
Telstra = a weird Australian line company that use some manner of alliance authentication that no-one else does.
NTL/Virgin use DHCP. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, occasionally called Dynamic IP in router set-up menus.
You'll need to rotate your NTL line modem off then on again before it will talk to the router properly. If you own only unplugged the ethernet line from your PC and plugged it into your wireless router, then the NTL line modem will not "talk" to the router. It's to do with MAC addresses. I won't annoy you.
It is wanting to set up the arrangement with DHCP protocol. This is used by numerous DSL providers, as well as some Cable providers.
This will set your router up with a singe IP address for the router, assigned by the IP provider over the modem, and then the DHCP client, will give divided IP address to every one computer, or printer or other instrument you connect to your network. It should work excellent for you, if that is what the eager design wants to use.
Remember, you can always push and grip the reset catch on the back or base of the router to renew to mill default settings, and begin over. (Hold the catch for 30+ seconds.)
Telstra is the biggest Australian broadband provider
